The Tasmanian Government is seeking community feedback on the draft Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy (STRLUS).
The STRLUS is a plan that guides how land is used and developed in Southern Tasmania over the next 25 years.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the STRLUS is an important strategic planning document, and would assist in applying the newly created Tasmanian Planning Policies.
"The STRLUS helps guide how and where growth and development should occur, including ensuring support for economic growth and release of land for much-needed housing," Minister Vincent said.
"The current STRLUS was first created in 2011, and though there have been some amendments since then, the reviewed draft now open for consultation reflects changes to the region in recent times.
"It will help guide what the future of Southern Tasmania looks like, influencing where growth for houses, business and industry should occur and protecting and managing our natural environment.
"The STRLUS represents a collaborative process between southern councils and the Tasmanian Government."
The draft STRLUS is the result of an extensive early consultation phase with key stakeholders and the community.
Feedback gained during this consultation period will be used to refine the STRLUS to create a final draft which will go to the Tasmanian Planning Commission for review.
It will then be considered by Government ahead of its planned rollout later next year.
The Northern and Cradle Coast regional land use strategies, also currently under review, are expected to be released for community consultation next year.
