Drivers flee back-to-back Clifton Hill crashes

Police are investigating after two drivers fled back-to-back crashes in Clifton Hill this morning.

Officers were called to the Eastern Freeway after the driver of a suspected stolen silver Holden Commodore sedan, travelling inbound, crashed into barriers, east of Hoddle Street just before 5am.

The male driver, believed to be the sole occupant, fled on foot before police arrived at the scene.

Shortly later, a silver Mercedes sedan drove through the crash scene, colliding into a police vehicle, causing the attending police officers to take evasive action.

The driver of the Mercedes did not stop and continued inbound along the Freeway.

Police believe there will be extensive damage to the driver's door of the Mercedes as a result of the crash.

There were no injuries.

Inbound traffic travelling on the Eastern Freeway at the Hoddle Street off ramp has been impacted and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
