An 'iconic show' featuring incredible music and a humbling storyline about a small community supporting others on a global scale will be performed at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre (DRTCC) this April, as the Dubbo Theatre Company takes to the stage in their 69th year.
Come From Away is based on a true story when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to over 7,000 people, when 38 planes were forced to land after being diverted to the airstrip when the US airspace was closed on September 11, 2021.
DRTCC Performing Arts and Venue Coordinator Tiffany Rowland said the storyline was one that would resonate with everyone who watched.
"This performance is all about the community supporting others, and we would love to see our community come out and support the Dubbo Theatre Company as they put on this show. The performers have volunteered their time to bring the production to life for our community, and we want to see as many people as possible support them," Ms Rowland said.
Come From Away director Jamie Foster said 2024's performance of Guys and Dolls had a cast in excess of 50 people, this year it is a much more intimate show with an ensemble cast who have been working on the delivery for the past 12 months.
"It was also only released for amateur companies in May 2024, and there is always a desire within the Dubbo Theatre Company to try new material," Mr Foster said.
Come from Away is an ensemble cast with 12 members of Dubbo Theatre Company taking to the stage.
The cast include Dannielle Foster, Sarah Drake, Greg Markwick, James Eddy (who plays seven named characters), Elissa Burden, Courtney McAnespie, Luke Doyle, Mark Barnes, Alison Jones, Anna Parker, John Gibson and Jamie Foster as well as a live band of local musicians.
Mr Foster said they work closely with DRTCC staff to bring the best possible performance to the stage for the community.
"Dubbo Theatre Company work with the team at DRTCC as we bring our production to the stage. I thank them for their professionalism and diligence in helping us put on the best production possible," Mr Foster said.
The Dubbo Theatre Company were meant to perform the show in July 2025, however following a critical incident at the theatre, decided to move the show until April 2026.
Tickets for Come From Away are on sale now with six shows across Friday, 24 April, Saturday 25 April, Friday 1 May and Saturday 2 May.
