Director Carter Delivers the National Statement on Behalf of the United States
Vienna, Austria - ONDCP Director Sara Carter addressed the 69th session of the United Nations' Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). The CND unites 53 member states in a shared cause-to monitor and resolve global drug problems. While at the CND, Director Carter delivered the National Statement on behalf of the United States, and highlighted the successful actions President Trump is taking to annihilate the criminal enterprises that profit from the illicit drug trade and are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
"Under President Trump's leadership, we are saving lives and driving a stronger global response against the terror of drugs," said Director Carter in the U.S. National Statement. "This forum is an opportunity for the nations of the world to band together and combat not only narcotics, but criminal enterprises and their funding mechanisms, their allies in places of power, their disrespect for the law, and their terror over our citizens. Our advantage is our ability to work together, to respect the law, to leverage the talents and good character of our citizens, and to pool our might to target those bringing about this deadly destruction. If our joint goal is truly a peaceful world and thriving, healthy citizenry, then we cannot let the cancers that aim to destroy us continue to prosper."
In the National Statement, Director Carter highlighted ongoing problems with chemical precursors from countries such as China. "We know where the chemical precursors are coming from. They are manufactured by the millions of tons in China," said Director Carter. While at the CND, Director Carter also met with representatives from a number of countries to rally support for ending the reign of narcotraffickers. Read the full U.S. National Statement here.
