Drugs and firearms charges at Emerald

Officers from the Emerald Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged two people in relation to drugs and weapons offences, following searches at two separate short-term accommodation providers earlier this month.

On November 5, police attended the first location on Roberts Street in Emerald, after a tip off from the public about suspicious activity.

Police conducted a search of a motel room, where they located a .410 shotgun and a number of drug related items that were subsequently seized.

On November 12, police attended another short-term accommodation unit on Fairbairn Dam Road in Gindie and arrested a 22-year-old Clermont man and 43-year-old Emerald woman.

Detectives, with the assistance of uniformed police, conducted a search of the holiday cabin, where they located a shortened rifle, a quantity of ammunition, around $11,000 in cash and a substantial quantity of methylamphetamine / methamphetamine with an estimated value of $130,000.

A 22-year-old Clermont man and 43-year-old Emerald woman have been charged with multiple offences, including possessing shortened firearms, authority required to possess explosives, possession of dangerous drugs exceeding schedule 3, supplying dangerous drugs and possessing tainted property.

They have both been remanded in custody and are due to reappear in Emerald Magistrates Court on December 19.
