Drugs, Sawn-off Shotgun And Cash Seized, Cairns North

Officers from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Far Northern with assistance from the Far North Dog Squad have charged a 39-year-old Westcourt man following a search warrant at a Cairns North property on 25 May.

It will be alleged officers attended the McLeod Street property and located a sawn-off shotgun, a quantity of methylamphetamine, drug utensils and more than $30,000 in cash.

The 39-year-old Westcourt man was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than schedule 4, possessing anything used in the commission of crime, unlawful possession of a category H weapon, and possession of property suspected of being acquired with proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 26 May.

Officer in charge of the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said there is no place for dangerous drugs and weapons in the Cairns community.

"We know the potential harm that both methylamphetamine and unlawful weapons can cause, that's why our team remains committed to investigating these offenders and putting them before the courts," Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said.

"Our efforts to disrupt the movement of these substances in the Far North will continue, and we urge anyone in the community with information to contact us."
