Drugs seized - Victoria Daly region

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of cannabis bound for a remote community in the Victoria Daly region.

At around 4:15pm yesterday, police were advised that a 51-year-old man handed over a vehicle to a 37-year-old woman at a border control point.

Police conducted a traffic apprehension on the vehicle and commenced a search. Approximately 405 grams of cannabis was located and seized from underneath the bonnet.

Superintendent Tanya Woodcock said, "Police estimate the cannabis would have retailed for approximately $40,500 in the community. By seizing these drugs, police have prevented the trafficker profiting from vulnerable community members."

Anyone with information on the transport of drugs and alcohol into communities is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations are ongoing.
