DTU Commemoration Behind Scenes

Technical University of Denmark

Waste teams, kitchen staff, waiters and movers work to tight plans and with great flexibility to make DTU's long-standing Commemoration traditions come together. DTU Commemoration is one of the largest events in the Danish university world and is unique because it brings together students, employees and partners from other universities, companies, industries and public authorities.

Ida Krøll is a Senior Adviser and Head of the Event Team in Stakeholder Management in DTU's Office for Policy and Relations. As an organiser of DTU Commemoration, she plans and delivers the event together with the Event Team, and also acts as the overall coordinator across countless suppliers, colleagues and partners.

Thomas Mellerup, Executive Officer in Stakeholder Management, is also closely involved in developing the content and production for the academic ceremony, as well as in security planning. In addition, the entire Stakeholder Management team is involved in a wide range of tasks in connection with DTU Commemoration, working together with engaged employees from DTU Campus Service and DTU's Office of Communication and Media.

"An event of this size is not created by one person - it is the result of a strong sense of community. Over an entire year, we have planned, coordinated, adjusted, tested, rethought and fine-tuned the event in close collaboration. Now we are approaching the culmination of work carried by trust, dedication and the efforts of many skilled people," says Ida Krøll.

But what happens behind the scenes before the guests arrive? Hear two organisers talk about their tasks—and why their roles are essential.
