Today, the Honourable Lawrence A. MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, on behalf of the Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Rural Economic Development, and the Honourable Steven Myers, PEI Minister of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy, announced funding for 16 infrastructure projects in Eastern Prince Edward Island, including the construction and renovation of cultural, recreational, water and wastewater projects.
In Morell, improvements to the community wastewater treatment system will be made to provide better wastewater treatment services to the growing community. Investments will also support upgrades and renovations to the Morell Community Rink, including new dressing rooms, new accessible and barrier free public washrooms, an improved front entrance for wheelchair accessibility, and a skate sharpening area.
Once complete, these projects will provide residents and visitors with improved wastewater treatment, and recreational facilities; supporting healthy, active lifestyles, and a clean environment to work, play, and raise families.
Other projects include improvements to community and recreation facilities, upgrades to pedestrian walkways, improving playgrounds and trails, and upgrading municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
The Government of Canada is investing over $5.3 million in total towards these 16 projects through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan. The Government of Prince Edward Island is contributing over $6.2 million in total.
