Eat, rest and play chess

We are adding finishing touches to 2 new community dining areas in Scoresby Shopping Village, including a community chess and backgrammon boards.

Council received $300,000 through the COVID Safe Outdoor Activation Fund from the Victorian Government to create more outdoor dining locations, beautify streetscapes, and host a range of events to increase foot traffic to our retail centres.

Scoresby Shopping Village has been transformed with the addition of 2 new community dining areas.

One dining area, located on the corner of Ferntree Gully Road and Lynton Place features 2 spacious picnic tables with in-built chess and backgrammon boards and 7 benches.

Locals and visitors will be able to enjoy their meal in the open fresh air, or play a friendly game of chess or backgrammon (BYO chess or backgrammon pieces).

The area will be lined with a hardy grass garden bed, and glass screens will enclose 3 sides to reduce traffic noise.

The second dining area located in Daryl St park, features 2 modern dining pods that are wheel chair accessible, artistic mudstone seating, and 2 solar powered lights to improve safety and visibility at night.

Around the village, more planter boxes, benches and bike hoops will be installed to enhance the streetscape and improve amenity for locals and visitors.

The works will be completed by the end of this month.
