The new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Mónica Palencia, today presented her credentials to Secretary General Albert Ramdin, in a ceremony before member states held at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
In her speech, Ambassador Palencia stated that she comes "to support the OAS both as a process and as an entity, in order to contribute to the conscious possibility of redefining its cultural identity, providing it with a voice through consensus and sufficient power to decide, act, and carry out concrete actions." "The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, when assigning me to this mission, emphasized its significance, noting that multilateral activity is essential for development, highlighting the need to have and maintain a firm conviction that hemispheric cooperation is the indispensable path to face common challenges and uphold the commitment to unity and integration," she added.
For his part, OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin welcomed Ambassador Palencia, highlighting that Ecuador "has been a committed and engaged member state of the OAS for many years. Its active participation has significantly contributed to the promotion of democracy, human rights, security, and sustainable development in the hemisphere."
Ambassador Palencia is a lawyer by profession, holds a degree in Political Science, a master's in International Relations – among other credentials – and has served as Minister of the Interior and Government of her country.
