- Education Minister's Running Challenge winners announced today at Parliament House
- Winners of seven categories awarded prizes for their efforts
- New categories included this year to encourage inclusion and participation and promote active, healthy lifestyles
The 2025 Education Minister's Running Challenge has drawn to a close, with almost 5,000 registered participants logging nearly 53,000 activities and 2.1 million minutes of movement.
Education Minister Sabine Winton recognised the efforts of students and staff at Parliament House today, marking completion of the challenge, which involved 422 schools and ran from July to September across all education sectors.
Now in its third year, the health and fitness challenge includes running, walking and wheelchair activities, with a new category added in 2025 recognising cycling and manual scooters.
Over nine weeks, primary students aimed for at least 200 minutes of physical activity, with secondary students and staff aiming for at least 300 minutes.
Minister Winton announced winners of five individual challenge categories who each received a $1,000 voucher and trophy.
The overall primary school and secondary school winners were each awarded $2,500 cash and a trophy.
Of the 5,000 participants registered, a record 1,810 successfully completed the challenge. Those who recorded distance travelled during their activity achieved a combined total of 144,000 kms, which is roughly the equivalent of walking from Parliament House in West Perth to Kununurra and back again more than 25 times.
The top 100 students will soon be announced for induction into the 100 Club.
This year's challenge ran in partnership with the Perth Running Festival and was supported by the Australian Olympic Committee.
As stated by Education and Preventative Health Minister Sabine Winton:
"As Education and Preventative Health Minister, it's fantastic to see 5,000 participants successfully participated in the Education Minister's Running Challenge this year.
"These students and staff have been diligently incorporating regular doses of physical activity into their daily lives, uniting communities and facilitating school pride.
"This year's challenge included new categories to encourage inclusion and participation to best suit capabilities and needs as part of the Government's priority of promoting active, healthy lifestyles, and the response was incredible.
"Congratulations to all the participants and category winners."
