Emergency crews responding to house fire - Gymea Bay

Police are investigating after a house fire in Sydney's south this morning.

About 4.15am today (Wednesday 24 March 2021), emergency services were called to a home at Valley Way, Gymea Bay, following reports of a house fire.

NSW Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the blaze, which had spread into nearby bushland.

The resident, a 57-year-old woman, was evacuated with her dog.

The woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, before being taken to Sutherland Hospital for observation.

Neighbouring residents on Valley Way and Matong Place were also evacuated as a precaution.

Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

As inquiries continue, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
