EMERGENCY WARNING - Tallebudgera Valley and Currumbin Valley

Flooded and closed roads

EMERGENCY WARNING. From City of Gold Coast. TALLEBUDGERA VALLEY and CURRUMBIN VALLEY. Life threating flash flooding is occurring. Shelter in place unless it is unsafe to do so. Access to area is cut and inaccessible in multiple places. Do not enter flood waters. For life threatening emergencies call 000.

Our main message this morning is STAY HOME.

The Roads are not safe. We now have more than 75 roads closed but we also have life threatening flash flooding occurring across the entire City.

We issued Emergency Warnings for Tallebudgera and Currumbin Valleys because they are most impacted. We are asking people to shelter in place unless it is unsafe to do so.

We also have flooding in the Northern suburbs along the Albert and Logan River but at this stage we have not heard of significant impacts to properties there.

We currently have evacuation assembly points open. At Reedy Creek Waste & Recycling Centre and Ormeau Community Centre, however, we always say that the best thing is to seek shelter with friends and family where possible.

Domestic pets are permitted at evacuation assembly points

Sandbagging stations are open 6am to 6pm today however PLEASE ONLY go there if it is safe to do so.

Stay away from waterways, flooded areas and storm channels – they're not a place to play today. There's debris around and you never know what might be underneath the water.

Beaches are closed again today due to dangerous conditions and so are our Waste and Recycling Centres

Remember - if it's flooded forget it. Stay out of floodwaters.
