Entries open for short film festival

Entries for the ninth edition of Understory Film Festival are now open.

Aspiring, emerging and professional filmmakers in North Queensland are invited to submit short films for the chance to have them shown on the big screen and be in the running to share in a $5,000 cash prize.

The winner of the Best Film and People's Choice Award will receive $2,500.

Submitted short films must be eight minutes or less, including credits.

Categories include:

  • Best Film Award
  • Best High School Student Award
  • Best Young Filmmaker Award
  • Best Emerging Filmmaker Award
  • Best Animation Award
  • Best Experimental Film Award
  • Best Music Video Award (only music videos for original compositions are eligible)
  • Best Documentary Award
  • Best Fiction Film Award
  • People's Choice Award (voted by the public on screening night)

Residents from Townsville to Cairns, across Cape York, the Gulf of Carpentaria region and the Torres Strait Islands are eligible to submit their films.

Entry is free and submissions must be received by 4pm on 11 October.

Understory Film Festival Screening and Awards Presentation will take place at Munro Martin Parklands on 26 November.
