Edward River Council has taken a proactive step to prepare for the future of renewable energy development in our region, endorsing a suite of Position Statements that set clear expectations for all stakeholders.
The Renewable Energy Position Statements, endorsed by Council during last week's Council meeting, provide a consistent and transparent approach to managing renewable energy projects within the Edward River Local Government Area.
They outline Council's priorities and requirements across all stages of major projects - from planning and construction through to operation, decommissioning and rehabilitation.
These statements will also strengthen Council's negotiating position with project proponents.
Mayor Ashley Hall said the Position Statements demonstrate Council's commitment to supporting renewable energy while safeguarding community interests.
"We know renewable energy projects bring opportunities and challenges. By establishing these Position Statements now, we're ensuring that developers, government agencies and our community have a clear, consistent framework to guide decision-making and deliver long-term benefits," the Mayor said.
The Position Statements cover key areas including:
• Community Engagement and Benefit
• Transport, Water, Waste, and Housing
• Health and Emergency Services
• Workforce Development and Education
• Cultural Heritage and Hazard Management
• Economic Development and Complaint Management
Council developed the Position Statements through extensive consultation with Councillors, staff, legal advisors, neighbouring councils and renewable energy focus groups.
The Position Statements will be published on Council's website and promoted via social media channels. In early 2026, Council will host an information session to engage the community and answer questions about the Position Statements.
"Renewable energy is part of our future, and Edward River Council is proud to lead with a clear, consistent and community-focused approach," the Mayor said.
