Stonington Highway Patrol members are appealing for witnesses following an erratic driver in East Malvern this morning (3 January), Victoria Police say.
It is believed a red Honda sedan was detected travelling at high speed outbound on the Monash Freeway about 2.55am.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle and the driver stopped on the freeway near the High Street road exit and reversed a short distance before turning around and travelling the wrong way towards East Malvern.
Police did not follow the vehicle for safety reasons and the vehicle exited at the High Street road exit ramp and police say the vehicle was dumped in the car park of the Eric Raven Reserve and the driver fled on foot.
Police are appealing for anyone who has dash cam footage of the vehicle travelling on the freeway to contact Crime Stoppers.
