Esperance High Risk Arrest

Esperance Detectives have charged a 54-year-old man after an incident in Castletown yesterday, Thursday 7 May 2020.

Around 10am, Esperance Police were conducting patrols when they spotted a vehicle of interest, a white Toyota Landcruiser.

It will be alleged police attempted to stop the vehicle on Goldfields Road and a short evade police incident occurred before the vehicle stopped at a home on Westmacott Street.

When police approached the driver side of the vehicle, it will be further alleged the accused was armed with a loaded firearm when he exited the vehicle, pointed the firearm at a police officer and threatened the officers.

A physical altercation occurred and the police officers disarmed the accused before restraining him with handcuffs.

A man in his 40s was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested at the scene. This man has been released without charge.

Shortly after the arrest, officers conducted a search of the home and it will be alleged they located a number of items including ammunition, cannabis and a taser.

A search of the vehicle was also conducted and it will be alleged police located more ammunition and a number of jewellery items. Inquiries are ongoing to determine how the jewellery items were obtained.
