A 41-year-old man has been charged in relation to an incident last night, Tuesday 29 December 2020, in Baldivis in which the driver of a vehicle failed to stop for police.
About 9:25pm officers in an unmarked police vehicle were driving on Kwinana Freeway, near Karnup Road, when they observed a Toyota Camry being driven above the speed limit. The vehicle was intercepted and both the Toyota Camry and the police vehicle pulled over into the emergency lane.
As the officers exited their vehicle to speak to the driver, the vehicle accelerated away and the officers lost sight of it. The vehicle was last seen driving in a reckless manner, using the emergency lane to pass vehicles on the freeway.
Several minutes later the officers came across the same vehicle crashed at the intersection of Kwinana Freeway (off ramp) and Safety Bay Road. The vehicle had been involved in a crash with another vehicle at that intersection.
The driver of the Toyota Camry was taken into custody. It will be alleged he failed a breath test and was driving an unlicensed vehicle. Due to his breath test reading he was issued an Immediate Disqualification Notice.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash received minor injuries.

- Fail to Stop
- Reckless Driving (to evade police)

- Used an Unlicensed Vehicle on a Road
He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 30 December 2020.
