About 9:20pm, police were alerted by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) activation of an allegedly stolen silver Toyota Hilux Ute travelling east along Guildford Road.
The Police Air Wing helicopter located and monitored the vehicle as it travelled southbound on Tonkin Highway. It will be alleged the driver reached speeds in excess of 140km/h as he headed towards Maddington.
Police attempted to stop the Toyota on Mahogany Street; however, upon activating emergency lights and sirens, it will be further alleged the driver accelerated away, and an evade police incident ensued.
Police will allege the Toyota continued to be driven dangerously and at excessive speed after re-joining Tonkin Highway. Officers deployed a tyre deflation device near Champion Drive in Champion Lakes, bringing the vehicle to a stop after it collided with a tree at low speed. The driver then fled on foot.
Police Air Wing crews guided officers, including Police Canine, to the driver's location in nearby bushland, where he was arrested and taken into custody.
A 20-year-old Armadale man has been charged with:
• Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly
• Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police
• Driver Fail to Comply with Direction to Stop (Aggravated)
• No Authority to Drive (Never Held & Disqualified)
The man's bail was refused, and he is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.
