Cessnock City Council is pleased to announce it was successful in receiving a $60,000 grant under the NSW Government's Everyone can Play grant program to upgrade the McFarlane Street Playground in Cessnock.

Council will match this funding dollar for dollar, making it a $120,000 upgrade to the playground.

The Everyone can Play grant program supports the creation of inclusive play spaces across NSW by partnering with local councils to design and construct new, or upgrade existing playgrounds.

This project involves upgrading the existing play space at McFarlane Street and providing new inclusive play equipment including a see-saw and carousel for our community to enjoy.

Works will also include making repairs to the existing play equipment, the provision of a 1.5 metre wide accessible concrete path through the playground, and the construction of a new picnic shelter with accessible seating.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal welcomed the announcement and looks forward to seeing the works kick off.

"Continuing to upgrade our local parks is one of my key priorities as Mayor, so this news is just fantastic," Councillor Suvaal said.

"With its ageing equipment and lack of inclusive play options, McFarlane Street Playground is certainly in need of an upgrade, and I'm sure local residents will welcome the news."

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government's Everyone can Play grant program and Cessnock City Council.
