Ex-Police Officer Charged With Child Abuse Offenses

Child Abuse Squad detectives have charged a former police officer with alleged child abuse offences in the Illawarra region.

On Monday 11 May 2026, detectives attached to State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad received a report of alleged historic offending by a 71-year-old man in 2017 and 2018.

About 10am on Thursday 21 May 2026, detectives arrested the 71-year-old in Wollongong.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of indecent assault person under 16 years of age (DV), and sexual intercourse with child under age of 10 years (DV).

The man was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Local Court 3 on Friday 22 May 2026, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday 22 July 2026.
