Excitement builds for Challenge Tour - as elite riders embrace Adelaide's East

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters has welcomed the exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the Santos Tour Down Under Challenge Tour – which is set to test the toughest of legs on 20 January next year.

The Challenge Tour will travel between Norwood and Campbelltown and will take place just hours before the world's best take on Stage 3 of the Santos Tour Down Under men's race.

Mayor Robert Bria said Norwood is the home of cycling in South Australia and a gateway to the iconic Adelaide Hills; making it a fitting start for the Challenge Tour.

"It's always very exciting to see cycling fans lining stage routes and cheering on the peloton," Mayor Bria said.

"Once again, our City will be bursting with colour and energy as we welcome the Santos Tour Down Under – and the thousands of fans – back to our leafy green streets and cosmopolitan lifestyle."

Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Stuart O'Grady OAM said Stage 3 was a stage for the climbers.

"Norwood is a great launchpad for Santos Tour Down Under routes featuring climbs and Stage three of our 2023 men's race is set to test even the toughest legs," Mr O'Grady said.

"All the action will begin on The Parade, marking Norwood's 15th time hosting a stage start," he said.

"Expect a big day of competition, and potential for a change in the overall lead."

The Santos Tour Down Under is Australia's greatest cycling race, with a rich history as the highestregarded and most popular bike race in the southern hemisphere.
