The Victorian Greens will today refuse to back either Labor or the Liberals in today's no confidence vote, should it go ahead as Labor's leadership turmoil continues this morning.
Today's vote comes as Victorians are once again watching leadership musical chairs - the Greens say that Jacinta Allan and Ben Carroll are much of a muchness and that the fact they're both fighting harder for their job than they ever have for Victorians is a reflection of a Labor Government that cares more about clinging to power than using it to improve people's lives.
Leader of the Victorian Greens Ellen Sandell said that this is why people are fed up with both major parties and that her party won't give their support to either Labor or the Liberals in the vote today, when neither of them have the confidence of the Victorian public - nor deserve it.
The Greens say the public have no confidence in a Labor party whose recent track record consists of privatising public assets, demolishing public housing for private development, gutting environmental funding, approving the biggest new gas projects in a decade, introducing cruel and punitive laws to lock up kids, and refusing to clean up corruption.
The Greens also won't play any part in helping to prop-up a Liberal Party that's got One Nation waiting in the wings to help them form government and rip up Treaty, demolish climate change policy, bring back native forest logging, and introduce even more cruel policies to put kids through the adult court system.
The Greens say that both major parties only care about themselves, their own power and their donors - rather than focusing on Victorians and making life better for people.
The Greens will instead abstain from today's vote, refusing to support either major party, and arguing that "Victorians don't have to settle for a choice between bad and worse - they can demand better and elect more Greens to replace these two old, hopeless parties".
As stated by the Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell:
"I've got no confidence in Labor or the Liberals. Neither of them have the confidence of the Victorian public - nor do they deserve it."
"Today is the best advertisement for ending the two party system money could buy. Honestly, Victorians are sick of both major parties and deserve so much better than this.
"But Victorians don't have to choose between bad or worse: we all deserve better than these two old parties and the Greens are ready to replace them."
