Experts Convene for 10th Youth Tech Conference

Law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, social workers and child protection and technology experts from across Australia and the globe have converged on the Gold Coast for the tenth annual Youth, Technology and Virtual Communities (YTVC) conference.

The conference, hosted by Argos, Crime and Intelligence Command, runs over three days and features respected speakers from law enforcement representatives from Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, France, Sweden, Hong Kong, United States, United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

The theme of this year's conference is 'Recidivism', focusing on exploring effective strategies and the critical role technology plays in mitigating repeat offending behaviour.

There are 400 national and international delegates representing 47 agencies who will share insights and experiences on a range of topics on technology facilitated crimes against children, sextortion, online early intervention, using artificial intelligence to disrupt offenders.

Members of the Queensland Police Service (QPS), and other law enforcement and child protection agencies were also invited to share their own case studies and experiences within their respective fields.

Crime and Intelligence Command Assistant Commissioner Brian Connors said the Queensland Police Service (QPS) is committed to holding offenders accountable for their actions and protecting children from these horrific crimes.

"Each year the YTVC conference highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation by finding solutions to improve our response to sickening crimes committed against children," Assistant Commissioner Connors said.

"The challenges and insights shared by law enforcement agencies, policymakers and child protection agencies are extremely valuable as we continue to adapt our methodologies to protect victims.

"I am constantly in awe of the work of QPS and other stakeholders in fighting crimes targeting children and am proud of Argos for their continued commitment to hosting the YTVC conference and the successes it achieves."
