Find out where your waste really goes with Townsville City Council's brand new virtual waste tours.
The virtual tours have been created to help the community take a look behind the scenes of Council's waste facilities while staying COVID safe.
Townsville Water and Waste Committee chairperson, Councillor Russ Cook, said the tours explored four of Council's waste facilities.
"I'm excited that anyone who's interested in learning more about waste can easily access our brand new virtual tours on Council's website. These include virtual tours through Council's Recycling Facility Education Rooms, Stuart Waste Facility, Hervey Range Transfer Station and Magnetic Island Transfer Station," Cr Cook said.
"These virtual tours not only show you where our waste in Townsville really goes, but also tips and tricks for sorting your rubbish, what you can and can't recycle, and what goes on at our waste transfer stations and tip shops."
Cr Cook said there were plenty of take home messages from the virtual tours, including how household recycling efforts could make a big difference in reducing the amount of rubbish contamination in the city.
"Dealing with rubbish and recycling are huge jobs for Council – our teams collect more than 110,000 domestic waste and recycling bins each and every week. Everyone at home can do their part by making sure their bins are out by 6am, spaced at least half a metre apart and not contaminated or overloaded," he said.
"Make sure you know what is recyclable, and don't put batteries, scrap metal or plastic bags into your yellow bins. If you need a refresher on what goes into your recycling bin, just head to Council's website."
