Fairfield Hospital's $630M Redevelopment Unveiled

NSW Gov

The Minns Labor Government has today unveiled new artist's impressions and floor plans for the $630 million Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment, giving the community its first look at the modern, expanded hospital that will serve Western Sydney for generations.

This redevelopment is a major step in delivering the long-overdue investment Western Sydney was promised for more than a decade but never received, and part of the Government's plan to deliver the infrastructure and essential services communities need.

The new designs include the planned locations of hospital departments within the new multi-storey building.

The clinical services building will be located at the front of the existing Fairfield Hospital building, to enable seamless integration with existing health services. As part of the project, enhancements to the existing Fairfield Hospital will also be delivered, including upgrades to the main entry and drop-off areas, providing convenient access to a new main foyer, reception, and the existing hospital buildings.

The redevelopment will also include a new multi-storey car park and expanded ground level parking zones, which will boost the number of parking spaces on the hospital campus and improve access to health services across the hospital campus.

The new clinical services building will include:

  • Expanded Emergency Department
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Medical Imaging
  • Operating theatres
  • Inpatient wards.

Some existing departments will also be relocated or refurbished as part of the project.

The final design for the redevelopment will be confirmed as planning for the project progresses.

The first early works planning application is also currently on public exhibition, with work expected to start next year following planning approval. The community is invited to view plans and provide feedback on the works, which will prepare the site for main works construction.

The Fairfield community is encouraged to have their say and provide feedback on the proposed hospital designs and early works to help shape planning for the redevelopment.

This project forms part of the Government's broader investment in Western Sydney health infrastructure, with an additional $1.3 billion in the 2025-26 Budget supporting major facilities including:

  • an additional $700 million for the new Bankstown Hospital, increasing the total investment to $2 billion
  • additional State funding of $90 million to provide the full range of maternity and birthing services as part of the new Rouse Hill Hospital, with a further $120 million announced by the Commonwealth Government towards the new maternity and birthing service
  • $492 million to develop a Statewide Pathology Hub on the Westmead campus
  • $120 million for additional beds for Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals
  • $40.1 million to fit out level 13 of the new Paediatric Services Building at Westmead in partnership with the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation
  • $22.3 million to establish a new paediatric hospice at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.
