Fairfield Showground has come a long way over the past eight years, growing into one of our City's most important places for community, culture, sport and entertainment. With more than half a million visits each year, it is already a much-loved destination for our weekly markets, major festivals, sporting events and community activities.
The Showground is in a strategic location within Western Sydney. It is the epicentre of Western Sydney - surrounded by 2.5 million people; accessible within 30 minutes from major centres including Penrith, Blacktown, Liverpool, Bankstown, Campbelltown and the emerging Bradfield and Western Sydney International Airport precinct, with the added advantage of access via toll-free roads and free on-site parking.
Council is now developing a new Master Plan to guide the Showground's future. This is our opportunity to think big and consider how we can establish Fairfield Showground as a premier destination for major sporting, cultural, community and entertainment events in Western Sydney.
The vision includes exploring an expanded boutique football stadium, a future indoor sports centre, an outdoor amphitheatre, more parking and improved vehicle access, as well as opportunities to expand our popular markets. We are also considering the infrastructure needed to host multiple activities and major events across the precinct.
With a new Community and Events Centre accommodating up to 5,000 people, free on-site parking and located central to Western Sydney and surrounded by 2.5 million people, Fairfield Showground has everything it needs to become a destination of regional significance.
This is about planning for the future, bringing more visitors to our City and creating new opportunities for local businesses, jobs and our visitor and night-time economies.
With its location, space, existing events and markets, and the investment already being made in new facilities, I believe Fairfield Showground has all the ingredients for an exciting next chapter.
We have a unique opportunity to create a destination that our community can be proud of, and that people from across Western Sydney will want to visit.
