Free Summer Entry Announced For Council's Outdoor Pools

Ararat Rural City Council has announced free entry to all three of its outdoor swimming pools for the 2026/2027 summer, with opening dates and hours now available for Ararat, Lake Bolac, and Willaura.

Residents can look forward to a swim close to home, whether it is an early morning lap session, an after-school visit, or an afternoon at the pool during the school holidays.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said free entry would make it easier for local families to enjoy the pools throughout summer.

"A trip to the local pool is a great way to spend a summer afternoon, and this year everyone can come along without paying at the gate," Cr Sanders said.

"Bring the kids, catch up with friends, or get a few laps in. These pools are here for our communities to use, and we want people to make the most of them."

Ararat Olympic Outdoor Swimming Pool is already open for weekday lap swimming from 6am to 8.30am, following the start of morning sessions on Monday 12 October.

From 20 November, general swimming hours will be 4pm to 7pm on weekdays and 1pm to 7pm on weekends and public holidays. Weekday hours will extend to 1pm to 7pm once the school holidays begin.

Lake Bolac Peter O'Rorke Memorial Swimming Pool will open on Monday 30 November, operating from 3.30pm to 6.30pm on weekdays and 1pm to 7pm on weekends. Weekday hours will extend to 1pm to 7pm during the school holidays.

General swimming at the Ararat and Lake Bolac outdoor pools will be available when the temperature is 22 degrees or above. Both pools will be closed when the temperature is below 22 degrees.

Willaura Outdoor Memorial Pool will also open on Monday 30 November, with daily swimming hours from 3.30pm to 7pm. The pool will be closed when the temperature is below 23 degrees.

"Check Council's social media pages for the opening hours and weather before you head out, then grab your towel and enjoy a swim," Cr Sanders said.
