Families Strain as Inflation Surges Again

Families are being pushed to the limit, with new figures confirming Labor's cost of living crisis is getting worse, not better.

Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Federal Nationals Member for Page, Kevin Hogan, said locals are feeling it every day at the supermarket, at the petrol pump and on their household bills.

"Families are asking a simple question: how much more can we take?" Mr Hogan said. "Every time they go to the supermarket, every time a bill comes in, it's higher. Wages aren't keeping up and people are going backwards."

New data shows inflation has surged to 4.6 per cent, the highest level in more than two years, with underlying inflation also rising and remaining well above the Reserve Bank's target band.

Mr Hogan said while global events play a role, the underlying problem is being made worse by government decisions.

"Australia isn't immune to what's happening overseas, but we've been left exposed," he said. "Spending is out of control, and that is driving inflation higher for longer."

Mr Hogan said the impact is being felt across every part of household budgets:

• Insurance up 42 per cent

• Energy up 38 per cent

• Rents up more than 23 per cent

• Health up 17 per cent

• Education up 21 per cent

• Food up 17 per cent

"Australians deserve a government focused on easing pressure, not making it worse. People are working hard, doing everything right, and still falling behind."

"How much more can families take? Because right now, they are being stretched to breaking point."
