On Wednesday, 25 February, the symposium "Building liveable futures: knowledge and practice for the right to food and agroecological transitions", organized by the Observatory for Action and Research on Food ( FARO ) at the University of Barcelona, will take place in the Historic Building.
The opening lecture will be given by Nevin Cohen, director of the Urban Food Policy Institute at the City University of New York, who will reflect on recent changes in the US political agenda and local responses based on social justice. The conference programme will include discussions on the right to food and agroecological transitions, a fair showcasing research-related projects and initiatives, and the presentation of an assessment of Catalonia's food system, which FARO and Arran de Terra have begun to develop jointly. The afternoon sessions will consist of thematic working groups to explore challenges and proposals for the future in greater depth.
The conference will bring together academic and institutional voices from various organizations and communities. The aim is to share research, experiences and resources to move towards fairer and more sustainable food systems, in a context of social, environmental and economic emergency.
The FARO observatory was created in October 2023, in a context marked by concern about the social and climate emergency. It aims to address food from a systemic perspective (from production to consumption) in the face of challenges such as climate change and malnutrition, among many other issues.
