Farrer By-election: Initial Funding Payments Made

Parties and candidates who received the required four per cent of the formal first-preference vote cast at the Farrer by-election have received an initial payment of $12,791.

The payments, amounting to $51,164 in total, have been made to the Liberal Party of Australia, National party of Australia – N.S.W., Pauline Hanson's One Nation and to independent candidate Michelle Milthorpe.

The initial payment was not dependent on a demonstration of electoral expenditure – it is an automatic payment. It was required to be made as soon as practicable after the 20th day following polling day in the by-election.

Further funding payments: Farrer by-election

Further election funding payments are subject to submission of a claim by the candidate or political party showing demonstrated electoral expenditure. The total amount payable is capped at the amount of actual electoral expenditure incurred by the political party or candidate (and only up to an amount calculated against the number of first preference votes received in the by-election).

Election funding claims for further payments can be submitted to the AEC during the period from 29 May 2026 to 9 November 2026. The AEC will assess these claims and determinations will be published on the Transparency Register . All claims are closely examined by the AEC before final payments are made and may be subject to a formal compliance review.
