Police can confirm that a 43-year-old man has died at Tāhunanui Beach this evening.
Emergency services responded to a report of a person unresponsive in the water, shortly before 8pm.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the man, but sadly he has died.
Police are making enquiries on behalf of the Coroner.
