Fellowships free clinicians to follow research dreams

Congratulations to the 2020 Department of Health / Raine Medical Research Foundation Clinician Research Fellowship recipients – Osborne Park Hospital physiotherapist Jess Nolan, East Metropolitan Health Service Staff specialist, Dr Stephen Macdonald and Perth Children's Hospital Consultant Respiratory and Sleep Paediatrician Dr Mon Ohn.

The fellowships will enable the WA Health trio to pursue research that is of relevance to the WA Health system while continuing to perform some of their clinical duties.

The fellowships, which cover the costs of backfilling some of their clinical work, can be for up to three years depending on the extent of the research proposal.

Ms Nolan is pursuing research that could improve outcomes for patients requiring rehabilitation following a stroke. Dr Macdonald's research focuses on improving survival from sepsis. Dr Ohn's research is investigating safety and quality in adenotonsillectomy for childhood obstructive sleep apnoea.

Ms Nolan's research featured on the ABC (external site) recently.
