Northern Territory Police have concluded their festive road safety operation with a small cohort of drivers continuing to put Territory lives at risk.
Between 19 December 2022 and 3 January 2023 Operation Allier returned the following results.
- 7144 random breath tests were conducted (26 low range, 27 medium range and 9 high range)
- 62 people issued with a Notice to Appear
- 12 drug drivers apprehended
- 602 traffic infringements were given out for speeding
- 31 infringements for seatbelts not being worn
- 4 infringements for driving distracted while on a mobile device
- 131 infringements for unregistered/uninsured vehicles
- 69 vehicles defected and a further 2 impounded
- 68 arrests were made for road offences over this period.
Acting Sergeant Scott Aiken said "It is disappointing that a portion of our community continue to put the safety of others and themselves at risk on our roads. We are continuing to urge all drivers to be mindful of the Fatal Five.
"Speeding, seatbelts, distraction, drink and drug driving and fatigue.
"Territory motorists can expect to see a high traffic police presence on our roads moving into 2023."
