Cardinia Life was evacuated at around 8.30pm last night following a fire in the women's toilets.
CFA and police attended the site. All patrons were evacuated safely and there were no injuries.
The fire was extinguished quickly, enabling it to be contained to one cubicle, which damaged the walls and ceilings of the toilets, causing smoke to spread throughout the building. The CFA remained on site overnight to extract the smoke from the building. There was no damage to the building entries, and the site was secured.
The basketball courts, group fitness studios, toilets, creche and café will remain closed this morning, however the pool and gym have reopened as per normal opening times.
Works are being coordinated today in an effort to reopen the full facility as quickly as possible, including the female toilets which will remain closed until repairs are undertaken.
CCTV footage is being checked to confirm the cause of the fire and to assess building damage. Detectives are expected to be onsite this morning to further investigate the cause.
