Firearm And Drug Charges At Gold Coast 24 October

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man and woman following the discovery of a firearm, ammunition, drugs, and stolen property in a vehicle at Southport on 22 October.

Around 4.30pm, officers identified a silver Subaru Legacy, allegedly displaying stolen number plates, travelling through Southport.

Polair tracked the vehicle to a unit complex on Railway Street, where the male driver and female passenger were seen leaving the vehicle before being taken into custody nearby.

During the search of the Subaru, it will be alleged detectives located a shortened rifle, ammunition, methamphetamine, cannabis, drug utensils, and stolen bank cards.

Subsequent investigations revealed the alleged male offender may be able to assist police with other ongoing investigations.

A 23-year-old Southport man has been charged with three counts each of possessing dangerous drugs and receiving tainted property, two counts of stealing, and one count each of possessing a shortened firearm, authority required to possess explosives, possessing utensils or pipes for use, fraud, and evade police.

He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear at Southport Magistrates Court today, 24 October.

A 23-year-old Benowa woman has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing a shortened firearm, authority required to possess explosives, possessing utensils or pipes for use, and receiving tainted property.

She is due to reappear at Southport Magistrates Court on 4 November.

Investigations remain ongoing.
