Firearms and drug charges, Millstream

Cairns Highway Patrol with assistance from the Far North Tactical Crime Squad and Ravenshoe Police have charged a 34-year-old man with 21 offences following a search warrant at a Millstream property last month (February 27).

At approximately 8am on February 11, an officer conducting proactive patrols on Gillies Range Road at Barrine observed a motorcycle allegedly driving at 130km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The officer attempted to intercept the rider, who allegedly failed to stop for police.

Extensive investigations led police to a property at Millstream, where a search warrant was executed.

Four handguns, seven rifles along with multiple knives and other weapons were located and seized. It will be alleged two of the firearms were loaded and not secured.

It will be further alleged a motorbike, a quantity of methylamphetamine, cannabis including plants and drug utensils were located.

A 34-year-old Gordonvale man was charged with four counts of unlawful possession of weapons category A,B or M, three counts of possess utensils, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, one count each of unlawful possession of weapons Category D/H/R, secure storage of weapons - registered owner, fail to store small ammunition, powder device cartridges in a secured area, dangerous operation of a vehicle, disobeying speed limit, evasion offence, learner must not ride unless L plate is displayed, learner ride unsupervised, light vehicle must not be driven on a road if defective and wearing motorbike helmet.

A 61-year-old Millstream woman was also charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs and producing dangerous drugs.

Both the man and woman are expected to appear before Atherton Magistrates Court on March 21.
