Designs for the new elevated Queens Park and Cannington Stations and their public open spaces have been released for the first time, with a public comment period now open.
The elevated stations will be a major upgrade on the existing ageing stations, while the newly created public open spaces will significantly improve the amenity for the local community.
The new public spaces will include activity zones near the stations, parkland with trees and lawn, areas for residents of all ages and abilities, and shared paths for walkers, cyclists and scooters.
The new elevated Queens Park Station is being relocated slightly north to improve accessibility and connectivity. The station will feature two entrances at ground level from public spaces and parking facilities.
The new Cannington Station will be rebuilt as an elevated station in its existing location, with a new 16-stand bus interchange. The station will feature two lifts and escalators, and a kiosk opening onto the public space.
A development application and comment period for the new Beckenham Station and public open spaces is expected to be released next month.
The public comment period for the new Cannington and Queens Park Stations will close on the 23rd of August.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"This is the first time Perth will see a city parkland and elevated rail, creating mixed development and community opportunities.
"Modernising existing facilities will see the area revitalised and new spaces for the community to enjoy.
"I encourage everyone to have their say on this new space that will be available to the entire community, whether it be recreationally, socially or as a public transport user."
As stated by Cannington MLA Bill Johnston:
"These new stations and elevated rail will transform the corridor, deliver a signifcant upgrade to our ageing infrastructure and create opportunities for new public open spaces.
"These new stations and public open spaces will be for the entire community to enjoy, so it is imprortant people take the time to have their say and provide feedback on the designs."
