Resurfacing works on Fullarton Road are set to commence Sunday 15 November 2020, improving road safety, providing a smoother ride for road users and creating jobs.
The $6 million resurfacing works on Fullarton Road (between Glen Osmond Road to Carrick Hill and Rundle Street to The Parade), are the first to get underway as part of the Marshall Liberal Government's $100 million road maintenance package in the 2020-21 State Budget.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Corey Wingard, said while road maintenance might not be sexy, it's a welcome sugar hit for the construction industry with the creation of jobs right now.
"This is another part of our plan to keep South Australia safe and strong, by creating jobs, backing business and building what matters," Minister Wingard said.
"We have a series of high priority roads we're addressing to bust congestion and deliver safety benefits for South Australian motorists.
"The Marshall Government is focused on getting people from A to B faster so they can spend less time sitting in traffic and more time with their families doing what they love.
"We inherited a $750 million backlog in maintenance works from the former Labor government and we're continuing to chip away at that list."
The first stage of resurfacing works on Fullarton Road, worth around $850,000, will be undertaken on the section between Glen Osmond Road and Wattle Street.
Works will be undertaken at night between the hours of 8pm to 6am, Sunday to Friday. No works will be undertaken on Saturdays.
During the works, Fullarton Road will be open to southbound traffic, with detours in place for northbound traffic via Cross Road and Glen Osmond Road.
Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed and lane restrictions, and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.
The majority of works are expected to be completed in early December 2020, weather permitting, with line marking and other ancillary works expected to be completed by the end of December 2020, weather permitting.
In the recent State Budget, $100 million was allocated for road safety projects, part of which will unlock an additional $168 million from the Morrison Government's $2 billion for shovel-ready small scale safety projects announced in the recent Federal Budget.
Projects as part of our $100 million allocation include maintenance works on metropolitan roads such as Port Road, Fullarton Road, Marion Road, Greenhill Road and Anzac Highway.
