Flare Deployed At World Cup Event

A man has been reported after discharging a flare at a public event in Adelaide.

Police were called to War Memorial Drive, Adelaide, at about 3.45pm on Sunday 14 June, following reports that a flare had been deployed within a crowd at a soccer World Cup public viewing event.

Patrols attended and located a 29-year-old Glenelg North man, who was reported for discharging a flare and disorderly behaviour. He was issued with a three-month barring order from major event venues in Adelaide and will be summonsed to court in the coming months.

Flares are designed for emergency use only and can pose a serious risk of injury or fire when used in crowded public areas. Police remind the public that misuse of flares is dangerous and may result in significant penalties.
