How to Prepare

🏡 Residents can view the GBCMA Flood Intelligence Portal or the VICSES website to see a guide of how flooding may affect their property, and how to stay safe.

In any emergency, it pays to be prepared in advance:

  • 🍎💊 Make sure you have enough food, prescription medications, and supplies to last you a few days.
  • 👪 Check in on any neighbours or family who might need help.
  • 🌳⚠️ Don't park or camp under trees. Wet ground and stormy weather can cause trees and branches to fall.
  • 🐍⚠️ Floods can force snakes and other wildlife out of their natural habitat. Be careful near flooded areas.
  • 🦟⚠️ Mosquitos breed in stagnant water. Protect yourself from mosquitos by covering up and using personal insect repellent.
  • ✅📃 Learn what to do in the first 72 hours of an emergency.

🚧 Stay safe and avoid flooded areas. Floodwater can cause damage to roads and structures, and can contain strong currents, hidden objects, and contamination. ⛔ Never enter or drive through floodwater. ⛔
