ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:

Moderate to locally heavy rainfall has been observed across the Daly River catchment over the last week. This has caused river level rises across the catchment, with river levels elevated along the Fergusson River and minor flooding occurring along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre. Further downstream, river levels are rising along the Daly River, with a peak approaching Dorisvale Crossing over the next few days and approaching Daly River Police Station into this weekend. At Daly River Police Station, minor flooding is likely to occur from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, and moderate flooding is likely to occur from overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

The river level may exceed the major flood level over the weekend with a major flood peak possible from early next week. Further moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over the next few days which may cause additional river level rises.

A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End, Barkly, Tanami and Kimberley Districts.

Daly River above Douglas River:

River levels are elevated along the Daly River and tributaries upstream of the Douglas River.

Fergusson River:

River levels are elevated along the Fergusson River and tributaries.

Lower Daly River:

Major flooding is possible at Daly River Police Station. Significant river level rises have been recorded in the last few days with elevated river levels at Mount Nancar, Beeboom Crossing and Dorisvale Crossing.

The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is currently at 11.91 m and rising, below the minor flood level. The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is likely to exceed the minor flood level (12.60 m) from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The river is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (13.10 m) from overnight Wednesday into Thursday. The river may exceed the major flood level (14.00 m) during the weekend, and may peak above the major flood level from early next week. Forecasts will be updated as upstream peaks are observed.
