Flooded Habitat at Yalukit Willam Reserve

Council has taken swift action to repair environmental damage at Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve after a culvert was blocked without approval, disrupting water flows and flooding a sensitive habitat area.

The blockage caused a section of the Grassy Woodland on the eastern side of the reserve to become inundated.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Debbie Taylor-Haynes said Council must fulfill its obligations as the land manager and provide open space for current and future generations.

"Unauthorised works that damage public land and put protected habitat at risk will not be tolerated," said Cr Taylor-Haynes.

"Council will take a firm stance against rogue actions that undermine the environmental integrity of this reserve."

"We are acting to repair the damage and protect the long-term future of this habitat."

Visitors to this reserve may notice increased surveillance required to enhance safety and security of the site.

Council is investigating the matter and will take all the necessary steps to address the environmental damage, restore the habitat, and ensure appropriate action is taken.
