We're improving accessibility in the Anglesea Memorial Hall car park.
Works have started to deliver improved access between the car park on the western side of the building and the hall's accessible entrance, while also addressing safety concerns in the car park itself.
What's being done?
The project includes:
- Construction of a short new concrete path connecting the existing pathway to the accessible entrance on the side of the hall.
- Relocation of the accessible parking spaces (pictured) away from damaged asphalt, which has been affected by tree roots.
- Conversion of the damaged asphalt area into a new garden bed.
- Removal of the parking spaces to the immediate south of the accessible entrance that are marked as accessible. These do not meet Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards and can't be upgraded.
Once complete, there will be three accessible parking spaces in the area, all connected to the hall's accessible entrance via concrete pathways.
While the project will result in the loss of two parking spaces overall within the precinct, it will create a safer and more accessible environment for hall users and visitors.
Project Timeline
Works are being completed in the following stages:
- Construction of the new concrete pathway. (Complete.)
- Installation and line marking of the new accessible parking spaces.
- Removal of asphalt from the existing parking area and creation of the new garden bed.
All works are scheduled to be finished within four weeks.
Access During Works
Works will take place during weekdays, with access to the hall remaining available throughout the project.
Some temporary impacts to the availability of accessible parking spaces are expected while works are underway.
