Council is running two free food handling seminars in December for local retail food businesses and their employees.
Food businesses must ensure that all food handlers who engage in handling of food, have adequate skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters.
Topics covered at the seminar include food laws, temperature control, health and hygiene requirements, and reducing food poisoning risks.
These seminars will provide businesses meet this requirement by offering all attendees an opportunity to obtain Certificates of Attendance which entitles them to satisfactory compliance with this category at Council's next inspection.
Council's inspection report requires businesses to demonstrate compliance with this standard where a failure to do so, can result in up to 4 points to the overall fail rate being added.
Council encourages food business to attend as they will provide businesses and their employees information that will be beneficial to the operation of their food businesses as well as the possibility of automatic compliance with food skills and knowledge requirements during Council's next inspection.
