Forestry Minister Dave Kelly today announced the successful applicants of the Forest Products Commission's (FPC) Community Support Program.
This year's grants program saw an increase in total applications, with the majority coming from the South-West.
One of the 20 grant recipients, Capel River Girl Guides, will use the grant to help take its members on camps to enjoy our State's fantastic forests.
This year's program also continues its support for local Volunteer Fire Brigades, with four brigades receiving grants in 2021.
One recipient, Arthur River Bushfire Brigade, will use their grant to purchase and install water saving foaming nozzles for their hoses to help use less water.
The grants vary from $1,000 to $2,000 and will be used to support a range of community-based projects including tourism, education and recreation.
As stated by Forestry Minister Dave Kelly:
"The McGowan Government is committed to supporting a strong timber industry that benefits our regional communities.
"These grants ensure that local communities continue to experience the benefits of the forestry industry.
"The FPC's Community Support Program has injected $130,000 into 71 community groups in regional Western Australia since it began in 2018."
As stated by South West Region MLC Jackie Jarvis:
"It is fantastic to see our State's sustainable timber industry give back to the South-West community.
"The 21 organisations, which share in the $40,000 worth of grants, are all worthy recipients with a broad range of projects planned to enhance their local area.
"From planting native vegetation to nature excursions to upgrading infrastructure, the projects will contribute greatly to their communities by encouraging outdoor activity, fostering connection and educating others about forestry and the environment."
