Forestry leader among King's Birthday Honours

Dr Donald Allan Gilmour, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Sunshine Coast, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (General Division) for his contributions to the forestry sector.

Dr Gilmour lends his expertise and experience to the Tropical Forests and People Research Centre at UniSC's Forest Research Institute, providing key input, peer review and mentoring.

Dr Gilmour worked in tropical Queensland rainforests in the 1960s and 1970s, before leading the Nepal Australia Forestry Project for 10 years contributing to the development of community forestry in Nepal in a project funded by the Australian Government.

He went on to head the global forest conservation programme of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) based in Switzerland during the 1990s.
