Former foster carer charged over physical abuse of infant

A woman has been charged over the alleged physical abuse of an infant in her care in the state's Riverina region.

In October 2018, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation, after a 13-month-old girl presented to hospital with a fractured skull, fractured wrists, and bruising.

Following extensive investigations, a 37-year-old woman was arrested at Griffith Police Station about 10am today (Friday 18 April 2019).

She was charged with recklessly cause grievous bodily harm (DV).

Police will allege in court the woman physically abused the infant, who was in her care, in October 2018.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Griffith Local Court today (Friday 18 April 2019).

Alternate care arrangements were coordinated for the girl last year.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
