Former youth leader in court over historical child sex abuse - South Coast

A man has been charged with more than 30 child sex offences following an investigation into the historical alleged abuse of multiple teenage boys over more than two decades.

In July 2019, detectives from South Coast Police District commenced an investigation after receiving reports a teenage boy was sexually assaulted by a man who was known to him while at a youth group inthe Nowra area on numerous occasions between 1968 and 1981.

During the course of the investigation, police received information that a further five boys had been sexually assaulted by a man while under his care at religious youth groups in Nowra, Bomaderry and Kings Cross between 1968 and 1990.

Following extensive investigations, a 68-year-old man, who was a former youth worker, was issued a Court Attendance Notice on Thursday 10 June 2021 for 33 offences including buggery, indecent assault, sexual assault and incite indecent act on a person.

The man, from Northgate in Queensland, is due to appear at Nowra Local Court today (Monday 2 August 2021).
